Van Gogh (Women)

Short of funds but determined nevertheless to hone his skills as a figure painter, Van Gogh became his own best sitter. This picture, which shows the artist's awareness of Neo-Impressionist technique and color theory, is one of several that are painted on the reverse of an earlier peasant study.

Illustrated by British artist, Luke Edward Hall, our Van Gogh Slipper features the world renowned "Self-Portrait with a Straw Hat" on show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, intricately embroidered on a black Sea Island cotton-velvet slipper, with a black grosgrain trim.
